GOOD NUMBERS OF BOTH STRIPERS AND AMERICAN SCHAD CAN BE CAUGHT IN THE SACRAMENTO RIVER
Reports are coming out that Striper and Shad fishing is very good on the Sacramento River right now. Stripers are being caught near Grimes, Tisdale, and Colusa. Shad began to arrive last week anglers are having success at Miller Park, Discovery Park, and Bright Beach. We’re also getting reports that catfish are being caught at Verona and Knight’s Landing. Although late in the season a few sturgeon are still being caught as well.
Fall salmon is still up in the air, the CDFW is still reviewing whether or not we will have enough salmon in the river to allow for a salmon retention in the fall. The Forecast for this year is almost exactly the same as last year at 230,000 fish which is less than what is required to allow for a full recreational sports fishing season. As news comes in we will continue to report on the status of the Sacramento River fall salmon season.
As for now, it’s all about the Striper and Shad fishing. If your looking to target either of these species of fish the fishing should be pretty good at this time.
