2018 Quilcene river fishing report:

Left early this morning and got to the Big Quilcene before daylight. I missed yesterday and they had a great run in the am so I was thinking I’d limit out early today for sure. There was already a mob of fishermen there and not many catching fish. On my very first cast, I thought I’d hooked up with a big beautiful Coho, instead my beads got hammered by this big ugly Chum.

If you ever happen to hook one of these I recommend you have a pair of needle nose pliers in your pocket. Last year when I went to take the hook out of one of these gangling toothed dinosaurs, the damn thing tooth raked me and split the tip of my finger right in half. I bled like a stuck pig. Since I didn’t have any band aids, I had to use some yarn to tie a tourniquet so I could kept on fishing. Got my limit to. With that said, never again will I reach down on one of those without a pair of needle nose, and if I don’t have them, I’ll just break the son of a bitch off.  Not worth getting cut up.

Nasty Chum

Although it was a rough start, a few came up in the campground hole and I was able to catch a couple. There are a ton of Chum in the river now and it’s getting harder to catch any Coho. I lost two trying to punch my limit, but was only able to get 3 of my 4. I was there at 6:00 am and finally tapped out at noon. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

As always, drifting Stone Cold Beads was the ticket, salmon trout and steelhead all love Stone Cold Beads the best fishing beads ever.
