2018 Quilcene river fishing report:

The B-Run on the Big Quil provided a great day of fishing and another limit caught on Stone Cold Beads. I showed up a little late today and there were a few of the regulars already packing out limits.

Only one netter at the Roger Street hole meant that there were fish actually getting by and coming up the river. About 20 coho were camping at the wall hole and another 10 at the campground hole on the Big Quil Estate property.

I caught my first two right away but released one that looked a little too dark and small as well. After that, I had to put my work in. Drifting my beads through the hole over and over again with little effect. I was starting to wonder if I should have thrown that fish back but with time and effort, I was able to get my limit. It ended up taking about 3 hours with the last two coming when a few coho managed to get past the dip netters later in the afternoon.

All in all, it was a great day! We had several trout on while testing different colored beads for Stone Cold Beads which was a blast. We really enjoyed playing catch and release with the coastal cutthroat and rainbows. Many of which were in the 12″ to 14″ range. Below is a video of one of the cutthroat we caught.

There is still some prime time fishing left on the Big Quil, but it won’t last long. Get down there now while the competition isn’t as high.
This concludes our 2018 Quilcene River fishing report.
