Big Creek Fishing:


Big Creek is one of the few streams in Oregon that supports a hatchery coho run along with chinook and steelhead. Spring chinook enter the river as early as April and run till September when the river is closed to ensure the hatchery gets their eggs take. Once the river opens up again Coho start running peaking October and tapering in November. Once the coho action starts to drop off Winter Steelhead begins with steelhead runs that peak in Decebmer and January, then tapper through February and March.

Season generally runs January – August and October – December for fin-clipped steelhead. January – August and October – December fin-clipped Chinook, and hatchery Coho during the fall in the months of October and November.

Daily Limits

This fishery generally allows 2 adult fin-clipped salmon per day or 2 fin clipped steelhead.

Required Tackle:

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon or steelhead on most Oregon rivers.



Roe, and Shrimp.

Effective Techniques:


Drifting sand shrimp or eggs can be very effective, Also bobber and jig set ups or eggs under a float. Lastly throwing hardware like spoons and spinners.


Combat Fishing Rating:

Hand to Hand. Eye protection recommended in the hot spots!
