2017 Quilcene river fishing report:

Season opener on the Big Quilcene river starts tomorrow. Daily limits of 4 Coho a day allowed. Anti Snagging rule will be in effect. This years season opener looks to be a good one. Our eye’s and ears on the water indicated that decent number of coho are already coming up the river. Several fish have been spotted stacking up at the wall hole and we have seen a few being taken at the mouth in the salt as well. Fishing will be open from Roger Street to the WHY 101 bridge on the 16th of August till October 31st. Reports from the hatchery indicate that this years run should be a good one due to the number of jacks that returned last year.

The best spot to fish the big Quilcene is at the Wall hole but be aware it’s private property and you’ll need to get a pass to fish it. Annual and day passes can be obtained from Nick Ward at Big Quilcene River Estates. You can also hit several other areas on the river, the fishing might be a little tougher but you should still be able to catch some fish if your well versed and working a corky and yarn or possible beads and yarn.

As always on the Big Quil expect company, opening day is usually pretty packed, especially when there are reports of the fish already being in the river. We hope you enjoy our Lunker’s Guide fishing reports, stay tuned for more as the season goes on. We look forward to service you and keeping you up to date on the latest fishing activities in Washington State.
