2015 Cowlitz River Fishing Report

Last week Tacoma Power recovered 1,040 fall Chinook adults, 95 jacks, 203 summer-run steelhead, 137 coho adults, 75 jacks, 17 spring Chinook adults, one jack, and 12 cutthroat trout during five days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.

During the past week, Tacoma Power employees released eight coho adults and 17 seven spring Chinook adults into the Cispus River near the mouth of Yellow Jacket Creek and 147 fall Chinook adults, 20 jacks, 18 coho adults, two jacks, and eight spring Chinook adults at Franklin Bridge in Packwood, Washington.

During the week, Tacoma Power released 465 fall Chinook adults, 63 jacks, 111 coho adults, and 72 jacks, and one cutthroat trout into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton.

Of the 3,300 summer-run steelhead that have been recycled during the 2015 season, a total of 1,561 have been accounted for through September 25.

The river flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 3,050 cubic feet per second on Monday, September 28. River flows could change at any time so boaters and anglers should remain alert for this possibility.

NOTE: The “Total Returns” are the total number of adults that returned back to the hatchery. The “Upstream Transportation” numbers are ONLY adults that were taken Upstream to those locations.
